WBJEE 2016: Exam Pattern & Seat Reservations

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) is the state level entrance examination for students seeking admission to different undergraduate engineering courses offered by governmental, private and funded educational institutions in the state of West Bengal. Conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB), the exam is likely to be held in the first week of May 2016. Like every year, the Board will release the WBJEE 2016 admission form and information bulletin in the third week of December 2015.

Reservation of Seats:

Following are the key points on basis of which seats are reserved in WBJEE 2016

• WBJEE follows the reservation policy and rules specified by the government of West Bengal to offer reservation of seats in different engineering institutes.
• The seats reserved for SC/ST/PwD/OBC can only be availed by residents of West Bengal; SC/ST/PwD/OBC candidates from other states are not entitled to avail seats under these provisions.
• For candidates falling under PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category, the applying candidate must have 50% to 70% locomotor disability to qualify for reservation. If the PwD quota seats remain unfilled under this provision, the norm would be relaxed to include candidates with 40% to 50% locomotor disability.
• For admission to University based engineering courses, the rules defined for concerned university shall apply
• For admission to Government Engineering Colleges and Government Aided Self Financing Engineering, reservation rules of state government shall be followed
• Unaided Engineering / Self financing Engineering Colleges reservation is not mandatory. Reservations in such institutes shall be allowed as desired by the concerned institution authority
• For Defence Quota, a total of 12 seats are reserved, of which 7 are allotted to Government Engineering / Technology Colleges, 2 are reserved in Jadavpur University and three are offered at Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur.

Examination Pattern

Any candidate serious about cracking WBJEE must be familiar with the overall test pattern. Understanding the WBJEE Exam Pattern will help candidates design a well thought out preparation plan based upon major topics and sections to be covered, type and style of questions asked, total marks allotted to the questions, duration of examination among others. To help all WBJEE aspirants, we have compiled all important information about WBJEE Entrance Exam Pattern below.

• WBJEE question paper is designed as per Class X and Class XII syllabus
• All Questions are objective in nature
• Exam will be conducted by means of two exam papers; Paper I (Mathematics) and Paper II (Physics & Chemistry)
• Paper I will include 80 questions from Mathematics section and carry total of 100 marks
• Paper II will include 80 questions from Physics and Chemistry sections (40 questions each) and carry total of 100 marks
• Both the papers are to be completed within the duration of 2 hours.
• Both examination papers will have question from three categories, i.e., Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3.

• All category 1 questions draw 1 mark for correct answer; all wrong answers attract negative marking of ¼. All questions in this category will have single correct answer/option.
• All category 2 questions draw 2 marks for correct answer; all wrong answers attract negative marking of ½. All questions in this category will have single correct answer/option.
• All category 3 questions draw 2 marks each, no negative marks for wrong answers. Category 3 questions may have more than one correct option/answer.
